David DEROY
was Born in 1977, he was very early
interested in music and woodworking . At
the age of 15 he left its native
Normandy to enter the French National
violinmaking School in Mirecourt, where he stayed for 3 years before graduating in 1995 . It is in Angers (west of France ) that Master violin maker Jacques BAUER offered him to improve his restoration skills , learning the basics of
set up and sound adjustments, He worked two years in his workshop.
In 1997, David
DEROY worked one year in the workshop of Morris and Smith of London, where he had the
opportunity to restore and studdy the most beautiful instruments of the
Classical Italian Masters: Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati , Bergonzi, Guadagnini…
In 1998, Belgian violin maker Jan STRICK
invites him to join the team of violin
makers at the Maison BERNARD of
Brussels, workshop full of History since it was created in 1871, he will spend
5 years there. All those years in
contact with the most beautiful old instruments increased his interest
for creation and making of new instruments. In April 2004, David DEROY
took part in its first international competition of Violin Making in London where he won a first price. After these years of training
and experiment, he decides to open his
own shop in Brittany in the city of Vannes
in October 2004, in a very nice house in the St Patern historical area .
